RESIDENTS were forced from their homes after a carbon monoxide scare in a Glasgow restaurant.

Fire crews evacuated around 20 residents from flats in the Merchant City following a carbon monoxide build-up in a ground-floor pub on Tuesday afternoon.

Occupants were put up in Babbity Bowster pub as fire fighters worked to ventilate the Strathdewy pub, where the incident happened.

The emergency, on Blackfriars Street, happened around 2.30pm and residents were allowed back into their homes at 4.40pm.

The all-clear was given after atmospheric monitoring conducted by a specialist Scottish Fire and Rescue Service officer and an advisor from Glasgow Scientific Services confirmed the gas had dissipated.

The carbon monoxide was detected by an SGN worker and was coming from a petrol generator in the premises while refurbishment work is carried out.
