Police have named two women who were found dead in a possible case of carbon monoxide poisoning as 46-year-old Sharon Dodd and 51 year-old Mary Archibald.

Homes near the flat in the Gallowgate area of Glasgow were evacuated after the bodies of the two women, who are sisters-in-law, were discovered by emergency services on Sunday.

Police are continuing to investigate the deaths, which are being treated as "unexplained".

One line of inquiry is carbon monoxide poisoning and a Police Scotland spokeswoman said investigations so far mean the force can neither confirm or rule out this as a cause of death.

The Herald:

She added: "Inquiries into the deaths of two women, aged 51 and 46, found within a flat in Dalserf Court, Gallowgate, Glasgow, around noon on Sunday are continuing.

"At this time, their deaths are currently being treated as unexplained, however, are not at this time thought to be suspicious.

"A post-mortem will take place in due course to establish the cause of their deaths and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

"All residents evacuated from their homes as a precaution at the time have been allowed to return."
