The footage, shot in the countryside near Glasgow, records an earthy exchange between two ramblers attracted by the animal's bleating.

One of the pair, identified as Charlie, reaches down into the hole in an attempt to grab the baby sheep.

As he successfully hauls the apparently unharmed lamb from the ground, his companion jokes he should take it home, before the animal is released back to the rest of the flock.

Posted on YouTube on Thursday, May 12, the video has proven popular online, with the cameraman later writing: "Me and my friend were out for a walk in the countryside in Glasgow, Scotland, and we heard a noise so we went over to the crack in the ground and well the rest is in the video.
"As far as we know the lamb is fine and back with its mother."
