TRAINSPOTTING star Ewan McGregor has launched a foul-mouthed tirade against Boris Johnson following the former London mayor's announcement he will not run for Tory leader.

In an X-rated Tweet the Scottish actor pulled no punches as he laid into the politician for leading the Brexit campaign yet refusing to step up and handle the fallout.

It's the second time this week the A-lister has weighed in on politics. Yesterday he blasted Labour 'turncoats' as he threw his support behind embattled Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.

Others took the opportunity to comedically reference McGregor's turn in the Star War prequels, casting Boris as the villainous Anakin Skywalker.

Mr Johnson was thought to be a front runner for the post following his prominent role in the Brexit campaign but a poll for a newspaper this morning said he would be in second place behind Theresa May.

In a dramatic press conference just moments before the deadline for nominations passed, Mr Johnson said that the next Tory leader would have to unify his party and ensure that Britain stood tall in the world.

And he said: "Having consulted colleagues and in view of the circumstances in Parliament, I have concluded that person cannot be me."
