A bottlenose dolphin is recovering after being sunburned while it was stuck on mudflats for 24 hours.

The young mammal was found by a couple who were trying to spot dolphins at the Cromarty Firth.

The pair raised the alarm and the creature was refloated.

Following the incident on 29 May scientists at the University of Aberdeen spottled Spirtle the dolphin and say its skin looks to be healing and there are no signs of infection.
