A body has been found on a disused rail line in Edinburgh.

Police were called to the scene in Abbeyhill on Friday but believe the body has "been there for some time".

Officers are investigating the death with British Transport Police (BTP) and working to identify the deceased.

A BTP spokesman said: "Officers are currently in attendance of a disused railway line in Edinburgh following reports of a body being discovered.

"It is believed the body has been there for some time.

"At this stage, enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surround this death and we are in discussions with the procurator fiscal.

"Officers are working to identify the person and inform any next of kin."
