Edinburgh’s Writers' Museum has been recognised as one of the best visitor attractions in the world.

The City of Edinburgh Council managed museum, which allows visitors to discover the city’s rare collection of first edition books, personal belongings and portraits of great Scottish writers, has been selected as a winner of TripExpert’s 2016 Experts' Choice Award.

Each year, TripExpert lists the best attractions around the world with the award, which is based on professional reviews from over 70 top travel guides, magazines and newspapers.

Councillor Richard Lewis, the City of Edinburgh Council’s Culture Convener, said: “This listing is based on the recommendations and reviews of some of the most experienced travel writers and journalists in the world. It’s a fantastic addition to the Writers’ Museum’s list of accolades and confirms what we in Edinburgh already know - that Edinburgh is one of the best destinations for literature lovers in the world. Edinburgh is home to the largest public celebration of the written word in the world, the Edinburgh International Book Festival in August while at the Writers’ Museum, visitors can discover the city’s rich writing heritage and UNESCO City of Literature status all year round.”
