TAGGART star Blythe Duff is to appear in a Shakespeare play for the first time.

The 54-year-old best known as Detective Inspector Jackie Reid will fly to London in the spring to appear in London’s Globe Theatre, a recreation of Shakespeare’s 1599 Elizabethan original.

She will star in Romeo and Juliet as Juliet’s nurse.

Theatre goers can even see her for a bargain price, as the Globe charges just £5 for standing tickets.

She said: “It’s very exciting.

“I’ve never done Shakespeare so it will be quite a challenge.

“Rehearsals begin in the spring and the run begins in late April.”

In stark contrast to her role in treading the boards, Duff has begun the year serving behind the counter of a pop-up shop in Glasgow’s south side.

Ironically, her partner in business is another woman called Reid who also boasts some experience of playing a police officer.

She is Sally Reid, a WPC in the BBC’s popular comedy Scot Squad.

Business has been so good at Cuckoo on Glasgow’s Pollokshaws Road they have extended their lease until the end of February.
