THE ADMINISTRATORS of failed Glasgow law firm Hamilton Burns have indicated that it is now unlikely any of the firm’s creditors will receive any of the money owed to them after the firm collapsed last year.

That means the firm’s former staff, who were collectively owed £25,000 in unpaid wages and holiday pay, will not be paid as expected. Similarly, an outstanding tax bill of £210,400 is not likely to be paid.

FRP Advisory’s Tom MacLennan and Iain Fraser, who were appointed as joint administrators last May, said it is “doubtful there will be sufficient funds” to pay staff while “it appears there will be insufficient funds” to pay unsecured creditors, of which HMRC is one.

Last July the administrators said they expected to be able to pay former staff their full entitlement and at least part of the amount owed to other parties.

However, they have now confirmed that they believe the amount of debt they will be able to recover to pay creditors “will be at the lower end of expectations”.

Separately, former Hamilton Burns partner Bill Criggie, whose LinkedIn profile states that he was the firm’s managing director, is due to appear before the Scottish Solicitors Discipline Tribunal in May following a complaint from the Law Society of Scotland.

It is not known what the complaint relates to. The Law Society and Mr Criggie both declined to comment.
