Tom Harris, the MP for Glasgow South, branded the disputed figure a “democratic scandal”, while former Scotland Office minister David Cairns described the levels as “outrageous”.
MPS have called for a higher priority to be given to voter registration after the Electoral Commission revealed that as many as 100,000 people – one-quarter of Glasgow’s eligible electorate – are not registered to vote.
