Embattled MP Devine vows to fight theft charges in court

A “devastated and distraught” Jim Devine vowed to clear his name last night after being charged under the Theft Act following an £8,745 parliamentary expenses claim for stationery costs and a cleaning bill.

Mr Devine said he strongly refuted the charges, which were made just a day after the Legg report on the “deeply flawed” expenses system found no issues with the claims made by the Labour MP for Livingston.
