Holyrood threat to scupper coalition poll plan

The Scottish Government is threatening to derail a coalition plan to hold the Alternative Vote referendum on the same day as elections in Scotland, Wales, England and Northern Ireland.

The development comes as the UK Government is under increasing pressure at Westminster to change the referendum date from May 5, 2011 -- with 44 Tory backbenchers signing a parliamentary motion urging David Cameron and Nick Clegg to have a rethink.
