MPs’ bid to avoid dock refused in fraud case

Labour MPs Jim Devine, Elliott Morley and David Chaytor yesterday pleaded not guilty to charges of fraud as the trail of the expenses scandal led to Westminster Magistrates’ Court.

At the start of a 15-minute hearing in a packed courtroom, the MPs’ barrister, Julian Knowles, asked that his clients be spared having to sit in the dock.
