MPs call to slim down Whitehall

The number of UK Government ministers should be cut by as much as one-third, or 40, to save about £20m a year and to produce “smaller, smarter government”, MPs say today.

In a report, members of the House of Commons Public Administration Committee also say the equally incremental “payroll vote”, including unpaid parliamentary aides, should be drastically reduced.
