MPs’ plea to save poll night count

Scottish politicians have intensified their call for the traditional election night count to be saved amid a growing desire by councils in Scotland to count the votes the following day.

A consultation of returning officers north of the Border is due to end soon but a snapshot has found that two thirds of those, that have so far responded, favour holding the count on the Friday after polling day.
