The man responsible for drawing up recommendations on reform of the MPs’ expenses system said that it was “disappointing” the Queen’s Speech did not include measures to beef up Westminster’s new standards authority.
Sir Christopher Kelly, the chairman of the Committee on Standards in Public Life, said the Government should have acted on his proposals to strengthen the enforcement powers and bolster the independence of the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (Ipsa).
