Salmond casts doubt on free public services

Alex Salmond has refused to guarantee the future of six key free public services but warned public-sector workers they faced years of pay restraint as a result of swingeing spending cuts.

The First Minister would not say whether the policies -- including university tuition fees and personal care for the elderly -- would remain free if the SNP was to win next year’s Holyrood elections.
