A schoolgirl was rushed to hospital after taking what is believed to be ecstasy.

The 13-year-old was hallucinating and suffering heart palpitations after taking the drug while out with friends.

Her dad called emergency services after discovering a video of his daughter acting in an unusual way on online app Snapchat.

Her mother checked her at about 7.30pm on Saturday she found her in distress.

The teenage girl's parents then found out she had taken an ecstasy pill shaped like a blue diamond.

She was rushed to the A&E department at Fraserburgh Hospital, Aberdeenshire, where tests were carried out before she was transferred to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

Her mother said: "She had an ECG (electrocardiogram) which showed her heart was racing and she was hallucinating - her eyes just looked empty and black.

"Fraserburgh hospital then called through to Aberdeen, who wanted her in as soon as possible by ambulance.

"I went with her in the ambulance, on arrival a second ECG was taken. She was very pale and still hallucinating.

"The consultant - who was absolutely brilliant with her - spoke with her at the time about the danger she had put herself in, as it's common for the kidneys and heart to fail, and in the worst case scenario - death."

The girl was kept in overnight for observation, and was discharged late on Sunday.

She is now recovering at home.

Although relieved she has not suffered any lasting damage, her mum decided to speak out to warn other teens of the risks.

Her mother said: "My aim was not to shame her, but these kids need to know they are playing with death.

"I needed to put it out there so other parents are aware that this stuff destroys families.

"She's 13, and these are readily available to kids of this age - it's disgusting.

"I can't even begin to tell anyone the level of devastation I am feeling just now, but these kids need to know they are playing with death.

"There are no safe drugs or legal drugs."
