Festivals and trams call halt to supermarket home deliveries

Sainsbury’s is halting home deliveries in parts of Edinburgh during the festival season, claiming roadworks – much of it tram related – and the influx of visitors will cause traffic chaos and stop drivers making their drops on time.

The supermarket apologised to customers and said it was forced to take the step because of summer-long road closures and diversions in the capital.

It said these would prevent it from maintaining the high standards expected by customers and result in a poor service.
