Floating wind farms may be built off Scottish coast

A Norwegian oil giant is hoping to pilot generating electricity from turbines on floating platforms off the coast of Scotland.

Sites are being considered on the west and east coasts, with areas off Lewis and Fraserburgh understood to be among them.

The former state-owned company Statoil is quoted on the Oslo and New York stock exchanges, but is still 60% owned by the Norwegian Government.
