Green lobby fights plans for ‘clean’ gas power station

Plans for a new gas-fired power station have run into opposition from environmental groups concerned about the pollution it will produce.

Spanish-owned Scottish Power want to replace the coal plant at Cockenzie near Edinburgh with a cleaner gas plant. But the plant will still emit millions of tonnes of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide, and could end up wasting vast amounts of heat.
