Shooters set for a glorious twelfth … amid activists’ anger

As the Glorious Twelfth looms, grouse-shooters will today be loading their guns in anticipation of what looks set to be one of the best seasons for bird hunting in Scotland … much to the distress of animal-rights groups.

Fears that the start of the grouse-shooting season on Thursday would be a damp squib have proved unfounded. Many more Scottish grouse managed to survive Britain’s harshest winter in decades than was expected.
