Sun, sea, sand and sewage – why Scots beaches stink … again

Popular beaches across ­Scotland are again being polluted with sewage, putting the health of bathers, paddlers and surfers at risk.

The Sunday Herald can reveal that one beach at the Heads of Ayr has already breached the sewage safety limit for the year, making it the first to fail so far this season.

Another seven bathing water areas around the coast have also suffered serious sewage pollution.
