Commuters have faced a seven-mile long tailback after an accident on the M8 in Glasgow caused damage to a bridge.

A Jaguar struck a bridge barrier at around 5.45am at Junction 18 Charing Cross in the city.

Following the incident, an eastbound lane and slip road were closed for repairs causing traffic chaos for drivers.

Police said a 38-year-old man had been taken by ambulance to Glasgow Royal Infirmary after the crash.

His condition is not thought to be life-threatening.

A diversion was put in place while repairs were undertaken.

Traffic Scotland told drivers to expect long delays with the expected duration of the closure unknown.

Queues stretched from Junction 29 to Junction 18 with delays also affecting M77 which was moving very slow northbound from Junction 5.
