Rail commuters faced delays travelling home tonight as trains across the central belt were cancelled due to a tree falling on to an overhead wire at Hyndland station.

The disruption is affecting services between Edinburgh and Helensburgh, Dalmuir and Larkhall, Edinburgh and Milngavie via Airdrie, Airdrie and Balloch and Dumbarton Central and Cumbernauld.

Trains may be cancelled or delayed until 11pm tonight.

ScotRail has said that passengers can use their valid ticket on First Glasgow buses taking the same route, or on Subway journeys between Partick and St Enoch or Buchanan Street stations.
