Early-autumn train punctuality has kept pace with performance this time last year.

A particularly strong performance by Virgin Trains on the West Coast line from Glasgow to London helped the nationwide trains-on-time figure reach 92.1% in the period from September 15 to October 12, Network Rail said. This compared with a figure of 92.3% for the same period last year.

Virgin Trains punctuality improved from 86.1% for the four-week period last year to 92.2% this year.

The poorest-performing company was First TransPennine Express, with a figure of 87.8%.
