Travellers on Scotland’s busiest rail service have been facing hours of delays today after cows strayed onto the line between Lenzie and Bishopbriggs.

Scotrail said trains between Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh via Falkirk High could be cancelled, delayed or revised at short notice following the incident, which happened around 11am near Cadder sidings.

At least one animal is thought to have been killed in the incident. Police, fire, and Network Rail staff were at the scene to remove the cow carcass from the track.
No rail crew or passengers are thought to have been hurt.

ScotRail say trains between Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh via Falkirk High are now running normally, however, services may still experience some delays.

The 5pm and 5.45pm commuter services between Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh were also run with three carriages instead of six.

Scotrail tweeted: “Today’s incident started around 11:00, I don’t know where the animals are escaping from but I am sure it’s being chased up.

“Services have resumed due to earlier incident with animals on line between Lenzie & Bishopbriggs, however may still experience delays.

“Sorry, following services will run with 3 carriages instead of 6, 17:00 Edinburgh to Glasgow Queen Street, 17:00 GLQ to EDB & 17:45 EDB-GLQ.”

It's the second time that rail services between Lenzie and Glasgow Queen Street have been disrupted in 24 hours after animals got on to the same stretch of line around 9.30pm last night. This disruption was cleared at around 1.11am today.
