Edinburgh controversial trams system has ground to a halt after one of its fleet broke down.

Transport for Edinburgh said there is currently a "service interruption" after the breakdown of one tram at Haymarket.

A spokesman for TfE said tickets for the trams would be valid on Lothian Buses.

It was unclear how long the service would be down but a source estimated it could be closed for an hour.

The spokesman was unable to say at this stage why one breakdown would halt the entire £776 million system, which only started running in May.
