AIR passengers from Scotland will be able to board a new generation of luxury aircraft next year after Thomson Airways announced it would operate the Dreamliner on two routes from Glasgow.

The airline is the first in the UK to take delivery of the new Boeing 787, which promises to transform air travel by offering more space, better fuel economy and greater range than traditional aircraft, and will fly them on routes to Cancun in Mexico and Sanford, Florida, from next May.

The announcement coincided with a flurry of new routes unveiled yesterday, including a Ryanair service from Glasgow Prestwick to Warsaw Modlin, a new airport located 20 miles outside the Polish capital, which will start from October 30.

Jet2 announced a new direct flight to Gran Canaria from Glasgow Airport from summer next year, while German airline Vueling announced it would reinstate a direct Edinburgh-Barcelona route that was suspended last year.

Amanda McMillan, managing director of Glasgow Airport, said: "To be the first airport in Scotland to welcome Boeing's new 787 Dreamliner will be a huge honour.

"The Dreamliner is at the cutting edge of aircraft design and will provide Scottish passengers with a unique flying experience."
