M8 closed in both directions after minibus smash

ONE person was airlifted to hospital after a minibus with 10 people on board careered off the M8 motorway and crashed into trees.

The accident happened shortly before 7am today between junctions 4 and 5 of the M8 eastbound near Shotts.

A full emergency response saw ambulances crews and police officers sent to the scene.

The road was closed eastbound and then later in both directions to allow an air ambulance to land on the carriageway and fly one casualty to hospital.
