New flights giving Oban an air service to and from Glasgow may take off this summer.
Argyll and Bute Council has submitted a funding bid to the UK Government's Department of Transport to cover the start-up costs of a pilot programme, to try out the new route.
A new air service between Oban and Barra is also being proposed following a study by Highlands and Islands transport partnership HITRANS, which recommended that the routes should be explored on a trial basis.
HITRANS made the suggestion after gathering opinions from Transport Scotland and Highlands and Islands Air Limited (HIAL), which operates several airports throughout the region.
Oban Airport is a key part of Argyll and Bute Council's overall regeneration initiative for the Oban and Lorn area.
Council Leader Dick Walsh said: "Daily flights to and from Glasgow would be a massive benefit and would support the council's strategic vision for the Lorn area, making if far easier for people to come and do business."
He added: "Hopefully we will secure this funding from the Department for Transport but if not we will explore other ways to turn our intent into action."
