The overnight closure of a vital Highland road will continue until further notice, leaving late night motorists with a detour of more than 130 miles.

Following this week's landslip, the A890 Stromeferry by-pass, which links the villages of Lochcarron and Kyle of Lochalsh, is currently only open between 7am and 7pm under traffic management.

But emergency services in the South West Ross area will remain unaffected.

A Highland Council spokeswoman said a report was expected next week which would confirm what further work would be required.

The road was closed for four months in 2012, when trains had to be commissioned to take pupils from Lochcarron and Applecross to Plockton High School. The Kylerhea/Glenelg ferry boat was also brought in from its winter break to help with the vehicular traffic.
