Scotland's ferry operators

CALMAC is the biggest ferry operator in Scotland, with a route network stretching from the Clyde and Argyll islands to the Inner and Outer Hebrides.

Its parent company is David MacBrayne, whose sole shareholders are Scottish Government ministers.

Argyll Ferries, another subsidiary of David MacBrayne, was set up to operate a passenger-only service between Gourock and Dunoon on the Clyde after the European Commission ruled it should be operated separately so as not to breach competition laws.
