Souter's fury after port link rejected

STAGECOACH tycoon Brian Souter has accused City of Edinburgh Council of "stifling innovation" after his planned hovercraft service over the Forth was rejected by councillors.

The Perth-based transport group said it had withdrawn its proposed link between Edinburgh with Fife, despite successful trials in 2007 which saw than 30,000 people use the 20-minute crossing service in just two weeks.

It followed a vote earlier this week by councillors on the development management sub-committee to reject plans to build a port at Portobello, just weeks after Fife Council gave permission for similar facilities at Kirkcaldy.
