Motorists will be able to buy cheaper petrol at supermarkets from today.

Four leading supermarkets announced they were cutting the price of their petrol, with Morrisons also knocking 1p a litre off diesel. The reductions follow cuts in supermarket diesel announced last week.

First to announce reductions yesterday was Asda, which said it was reducing its petrol price by up to 2p a litre. This will mean Asda customers pay no more than 133.7p a litre for petrol, with Asda diesel staying at 137.7p a litre.

Sainsbury's said it was also introducing a petrol cut of up to 2p a litre.

Then Morrisons said it would be cutting up to 3p a litre off petrol and 1p a litre off diesel. The Tesco cut is up to 2p a litre on petrol.
