Passengers on Glasgow's Subway face a third day of delays today in the worst disruption to the system in more than a decade.

Cowcaddens station remains closed this morning as work continues to fix a section of tunnel wall running to Buchanan Street.

Last night the inner circle was reopened, although Cowcaddens station remains closed.

Shuttle trains ran on the outer circle between Buchanan Street and Govan, and Govan and St George's Cross, with replacement buses between St George's Cross and Buchanan Street.

From 7am today, SPT is also running extra coaches from St George's Cross, Shields Road and Hillhead to Buchanan Street.

A problem was found with the tunnel during checks on Monday.

In a statement, SPT said: "Staff are on hand to help at stations and we would like to again thank all our customers for their patience during this time."

The last major disruption to hit the subway was in 2009 when work to build the M74 extension led to an 11-hour shutdown of the entire system. Work on part of the motorway was halted over fears that piling work has cracked tunnels.

A £1.3 million programme to improve the Subway's tunnels was approved last year by SPT.

The system is also undergoing a £300 million renovation programme which will include driverless trains.
