TWO men have been arrested under the new legislation designed to crack down on religious hatred associated with football, just days after it came into effect.

Strathclyde Police said a 46-year-old man was arrested near Ibrox Stadium shortly before Rangers' match against Hearts on Saturday.

A spokeswoman said she thought the man was not on the way to the match.

A second man, whose age is not known, was arrested within the Rangers' ground during the match.

Both are expected to appear before Glasgow Sheriff Court today.

The Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications (Scotland) Act 2012 came into effect last Thursday.
