100,000 stray dogs facing slaughter on the mean streets of Bucharest

More than 100,000 stray dogs, running wild through the streets of the Romanian capital Bucharest, are to be hunted down and killed within a fortnight unless they are rescued by families willing to give the wild animals a safe home.

Under a bill tabled by the major of the city, Mihai Cristian Atanasoaiei, the order has gone out for the wild dogs to be “humanely put down” unless citizens willingly adopt them.
