Assad supporters targeted in attacks

An explosion in a car-wash in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo killed at least five people yesterday, activists said, while another blast in the capital Damascus destroyed nine cars.

Bomb attacks have grown more common in Syria's two largest cities as the uprising against President Assad grows increasingly militarised. Yesterday's blast in Aleppo, Syria's largest city, hit a car owned by a man who serves in pro-government militias known as the shabiha. The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, relying on activists inside Syria, said five people were killed in the attack.
