A driver was killed and a polio worker injured by gunmen in north-western Pakistan yesterday.

Another vaccination team has gone missing ahead of a nationwide inoculation drive. The shooting happened in Pakistan's Khyber tribal region bordering Afghanistan. In the country's south-western Baluchistan province, two male anti-polio volunteers, two guards and a driver disappeared Friday after carrying out a vaccination campaign in a remote area. The incidents came ahead of tomorrow's anti-polio vaccination drive. Militants oppose the campaign, claiming the vaccine sterilises children and that Western governments use it to spy on insurgents after the killing of al- Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.
