Police used teargas to break up a rally of about 100 of Odinga's supporters outside the Supreme Court earlier in the day. He called on his allies to stay calm and trust in the law to resolve his complaint.
Lawyers said the petition to the Supreme Court includes allegations of vote manipulation and problems with voter registration.
