End of EU police training in Bosnia

A EUROPEAN Union mission to train local police forces in Bosnia has ended after a decade.

About 130 European Union Police Mission officials had the task of overseeing law-enforcement agencies that were rebuilt almost from scratch after the 1992-95 war.

The Balkan country is hoping to apply for EU membership this year and will have to show Brussels that its law-enforcement officials are capable of fighting widespread corruption and organised crime. An international envoy and a peacekeeping force remain in place.
