Film history goes up for auction

THE last few days has seen a flurry of auctions featuring famous film memorabilia.

More than 800 items belonging to film legend Greta Garbo were sold, with clothes, jewellery and other items fetching in some cases more than 10 times pre-sale estimates at a Beverley Hills auction.

And in New York, a piano used in Casablanca sold for just over $600,000. The piano was the one on which Dooley Wilson performed As Time Goes By, the signature song of the film's star-crossed lovers, played by Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman.
