Hobbit eagle falls after quake


An­ earthquake in New Zealand shook loose a giant eagle sculpture promoting The Hobbit movie trilogy and caused other minor damage. The magnitude 6.3 quake struck North Island and rattled the capital Wellington. The eagle sculpture in Wellington Airport fell from its overhead perch to the floor. No injuries were reported.

Meanwhile, a magnitude 4.4 earthquake shook southern Italy. Again, there were no reports of injuries.
