Hospital tests for Nelson Mandela

FORMER South African president Nelson Mandela was admitted to hospital yesterday for a "routine test", the government said.

A spokesman for President Jacob Zuma said there was "no need for panic" and that doctors were treating Mandela, 94, for a pre-existing condition.

The former president spent 18 days in hospital in December. He was treated for a lung infection and gallstones.
