Indians hit by rise in onion prices

MUMBAI: Onion prices have climbed sharply in India due to drought, as elections approach that have been known to turn on the price of the vegetable.

Onions cost 35 rupees (42p) per kg yesterday, up from 10 rupees three months ago. The government, which is facing 10 state polls, will hope for a good summer monsoon.
