Iranian group off US terror blacklist

THE US Government has removed a dissident Iranian group from its terror blacklist.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton formally removed Mujahideen-e Khalq (MEK) after sending a classified opinion to Congress earlier this month.

The group, which led a guerrilla campaign against the US-backed Shah of Iran, has been classed as a terror group by the US since 1997.

The group insists it is no longer violent. Despite removing it from the list, the US State Department said it did not "overlook or forget" the group's past actions.
