A suicide bomber blew himself up at the Defence Ministry in Kabul yesterday, killing nine civilians, during a visit to the country by US Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel.
Hagel was nowhere near the explosion, said a spokesman for the Nato-led International Security Assistance Force.
An Afghan Defence Ministry official said 14 people were also wounded in the attack, carried out by an insurgent on a bicycle.
