SLOVAK officials have rejected the overwhelming results of an internet campaign to name a new pedestrian and cycling bridge near its capital after US action film star Chuck Norris.
Despite 12,599 votes for Norris in the poll, the Bratislava regional assembly decided on the Freedom Cycling Bridge, in memory of those killed trying to escape communism, which earned only 457 votes.
Norris is a mainstay for local jokes about macho strength and invincibility. Other names included Maria Theresa after an Austro-Hungarian empress.
