THREE Afghan policemen stole more than $200,000 (£126,000) from a bank in the east of the country.

The officers had been guarding a branch of the state-owned Afghanistan Bank in Nuristan province when they decided to launch the heist.

Two of the rogue policemen have been caught with the majority of the money, but one is still on the run.

Afghanistan's government has promised to make law and order a priority in the country, but the 140,000-strong police force is often accused of corruption and human rights abuses.
